In Germany blood services are provided by four types of organisations: German Red Cross Blood Transfusion Services, state and communal blood transfusion services, commercial blood centres and plasmapheresis centres of the plasmafractionation industry. Of these German Red Cross Blood Transfusion Services and the German Society for Transfusion Medicine and Immunohematology (DGTI) are EBA members.
German Red Cross has six blood transfusion services including 28 donation centres and institutes. Some of these offer also an opportunity for plasmapheresis.

The German Society for Transfusion Medicine and Immunohematology (DGTI) is a non-profit professional organization dedicated to the advancement of transfusion medicine and co-operation with relevant medical specialties, specifically with respect to research and public health. The DGTI serves as the international umbrella organization for the science of transfusion medicine German-speaking countries, including as the Editor of the scientific journal “Transfusion Medicine and Hemotherapy” and as the organizer of an annual scientific meeting.
